This is a guest post by Laura Brown, founder of Bonny Blossom.
I started Bonny Blossom in January 2020. It all started as a sort of new year’s resolution for me – I decided I wanted a new hobby to do after a hard day at work which would relax and take my mind off, well, anything else. With this in mind I did that usual search on Pinterest for a craft that caught my eye - which bought me to pressed flower resin jewellery. I have been in love with it since!
A few of my favourite necklaces
I have always loved nature and stopped to appreciate flowers as I walked by. In fact, I’m a bit of a floral person – pretty much my whole wardrobe has some sort of flower print – I just can’t get enough of them! My love for all things pretty, natural and floral is what inspires my jewellery now and keeps me so enthused by the whole process. Now I go for walks in the countryside and look for flowers and leaves that will inspire my next creation!
Queen Anne’s lace plants and pressed Queens Anne’s lace jewellery
Once I started designing and creating jewellery, it’s all I wanted to do. I made more and more pieces until I had run out of space to keep them. At this point, I began to think about selling – which scared me to death as I felt I was putting myself and my creations out there for the world to criticise. But I bit the bullet and opened an Etsy store and I haven’t regretted it since! The thought that friends, family and total strangers are out there wearing my jewellery is an amazing feeling which I will never lose.
Bonny Blossom is still very small, and I like it this way. I am a full-time primary school teacher and I wouldn’t give that up for the world. I make all my jewellery in my little home office which is my own little creative space. Getting home after work and making my jewellery is calming and I find it therapeutic. It makes me happy seeing what new designs I can make and gives me a huge sense of accomplishment when things turn out well (which isn’t always the first time). Every time my phone pings to say I have a new order – well I don’t think that feeling will ever go away.
"Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try"
So, if you’re unsure whether to start something new, whether that be a new craft, making jewellery or anything else that makes you a little nervous, keep this quote in mind and give it a try – you won’t regret it I’m sure!
