This is a guest post by Yasmine Bramble, founder of Bramble Botanicals.
Hello! I’m Yasmine, the creator and founder of Bramble Botanicals, a vegan natural skincare brand based in Hertfordshire. In my day job, I’m an accountant, which very luckily has not been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, but I’ve always known that I wanted to start my own business too.
Bramble Botanicals was originally inspired by my own search for natural skincare products. My husband suffers from eczema, but we were unable to find natural products which are kind to sensitive skin readily available on the market, so I decided to start formulating my own. I experimented for a few years and my creations became Christmas gifts for many of my friends and family.
Eventually in 2019, I decided to take the plunge and start selling my products. And so, began the research and planning phase before eventually launching in July 2020 with my first product line – The Chocolate Collection. This consists of three, chocolate-scented body butters, made with raw cocoa butter and a careful blend of botanical oils.
My interest in natural skincare arose purely out of necessity, but the more research I did, the more passionate I became and very soon I was hooked! I had always tried to live a fairly healthy lifestyle, with regular exercise and a balanced diet, but funnily enough, I had never considered that the products I was using on my skin were equally as important. I immersed myself in the natural skincare world, and learnt about the benefits of various carrier oils, butters, essential oils and much more, and I haven’t looked back since.
The process of making my products by hand in small batches is so important to me, for several reasons. Firstly, it ensures that the quality is always the best it can possibly be. Owning a small business means that I am in charge of manufacturing, operations, marketing, finance, photography and everything in between. And although this can sometimes feel like I have a million spinning plates, it also means I have complete control over my business and quality control is always my highest priority.
Secondly, the act of making my products itself has benefited my mental health by allowing me to explore my creative side. I have always found the process of formulating both relaxing and rewarding, especially as in my day job there isn’t much scope for creative expression.
There is no greater reward than creating a product which my customers love, or receiving a positive review that my body butters have helped someone in their own natural skincare journey. Each order means so much to me and I absolutely still do happy dance every single time!
