Safety Instructions

The resin in your box is Ultracast solvent-free casting resin.

Health & Safety information from the manufacturer:

Although our resins are formulated with the most modern and safest epoxy chemicals available, all epoxy resins are chemicals and should be managed and handled with proactive safety hygiene and responsible care.

  • Always wear nitrile gloves (or use a specialist resin barrier cream)

  • Wear a respirator when sanding partially-cured resin

  • It is advisable to work in a well ventilated room

  • We advise the use of safety goggles

  • Avoid skin contact (if resin gets on skin wash with plenty of soap & water)

  • DO NOT eat, drink or smoke while working

  • In case of eye contamination wash with plenty of water for 15 minutes and consult medical advice immediately

See the full Safety Data Sheet here.

We advise that you do not open any of the resin or pigment containers until the workshop.

What you'll need at home

As well as your knack box, you'll need:

1. A bin bag or something non absorbent to cover your work surface (this one will get messy).  Choose somewhere where your resin items can lie undisturbed overnight to cure.

2. Sellotape and scissors

3. A knife (this doesn't need to be sharp, a table knife is fine, it is to help remove the pads from the coaster)

Make sure to dress for mess!

You'll need to clean and dry your coaster to make sure it is free from any factory grease/grime.

We recommend you stand the pigment containers the right way up for a few hours before using to reduce the likelihood of spillages, however these will still need to be opened carefully!

The Workshop

The live stream workshop is scheduled for 3pm on Friday 16th April 2021.  You can join the workshop through the link below.  If you need them the meeting ID is 936 9538 1924 and the passcode is 977135.

More About the Workshop

  • You'll get the best workshop experience using a laptop or tablet, but you can use a phone if need be (don't forget the charger!)

  • You'll need to place or prop your device on the workspace you'll be using, with enough space to craft in front of it

  • The workshop will be held on Zoom as a meeting

  • You don't need an account to join, but you will get a better experience if you download the Zoom app (this will only take a minute or so) rather than running it through the browser

  • You'll also get a better experience if you have more bandwidth - so try to limit other people using your internet connection at the same time as the workshop as much as possible

  • Feel free to join a few minutes before 3pm especially if you're not familiar with Zoom

After the Workshop

  • We love seeing what you make so please share pictures with us of your knack box and creations - in progress and/or finished and tag us @theknackbox on social media if that's your thing.
